Here at LivnFresh, we know that you can brighten up any Michigan home with the right DIY furniture. Right now, live-edge resin river tables are some of the most sought after furniture pieces out there. And today we will teach you how to make one on your own! With careful planning and delicate execution, experienced woodworkers and DIY’ers will surely be able to make a lovely new resin-filled table. This guide covers the basics of making your own live-edge resin-filled table to give you an idea of how it usually goes. Gather Your Tools and MaterialsYou will need a few materials for this project, namely: wood, translucent tinting pigments, tape, polypropylene sheet, polishing compound, and of course, some clear epoxy resin. Of course, you will also need some more tools and safety equipment to make sure the process goes as smoothly as possible. Before you get to work, make sure the environment you are in is a dry, heated space all throughout the process. The resin also needs to be at room temperature. If it’s delivered cold or it’s been in the garage for some time, you will have to raise the temperature to 20°C before use. Damp or cold conditions may affect the end result. Prepare the WoodWhen choosing your wood, you need to make sure that the wood is seasoned, dry, and as flat as possible. The style and type depend on your personal preference—you can get creative here. But waney-edges work best for this type of project. Pro tip: you can ask your supplier to cut the wood down to the correct size and depth or cut it in half if you want to do a central river channel. Chisel out the bark and then remove any loose material with abrasive paper. Next, check for cracks and gaps on the top and bottom of the pieces of wood. Seal them in by filling them with resin. Use tape to seal the cracks and gaps to prevent the resin from running out. Check on it every now and then and top up the resin if some were absorbed by the wood. When the resin is fully cured, use abrasives to level off the surface, removing any high spots. You want to leave a keyed surface so a coarse abrasive is ideal. Create a ContainerPosition your slabs of wood so you can make a container around the whole table slab—it will support the resin whilst pouring and curing the river. Begin with a flat sheet, which will make a baseboard to work upon. Use the polypropylene sheet to create a base and side barriers to create a container around the wood. Make the base 8cm larger than the table to allow for side barriers. Then use a hot-melt glue gun and run a bead of glue all around the base and side barrier to making sure the container is water-tight. If you need to test if it is watertight, just make sure you dry the container thoroughly afterward. Add the Resin!Whether you color the resin or not depends on your personal taste. Lots of DIY’ers use glow powders, metallic pigments, solid colors, etc. Try experimenting on a small amount of resin with any effect you want to achieve before applying it to your table. You can also leave it clear, and the resin will look good too. Use a blue translucent tinting pigment if you want to emphasize that watery effect for your river table. Once you’ve chosen the right style, carefully pour the resin into the container. Then add the correct amount of hardener and mix thoroughly. Make sure the resin completely covers the whole base area. Aim to slightly overfill the river channel, then leave the resin to fully cure. Place the wood planks back into the correct position on top of the resin. Use a brush to seal the edge and top surface with the resin including all the knots, splits, and cracks. Use a heat gun or hairdryer on medium heat to remove any bubbles. Finishing TouchesTo finish off the table you will need to add the legs and seal the wood. It is important that you do this prior to polishing the resin river as the polishing compound may mark the wood if it’s not protected. To polish the resin you will need a hand-held polisher and a high-quality polishing compound. This will help you achieve a high gloss finish. There are so many reasons to love Northern Michigan—and the numerous ski resorts are definitely among the top reasons to visit. If you are looking for the best deals for skiing in Northern Michigan, then don’t worry—LivnFresh has you covered. The secret to choosing the right ski resort in Northern Michigan is simple: there are no wrong choices. There are beginner-friendly slopes and ones that are more suitable for intermediate and advanced skiers. But mostly, it’s all about choosing which one offers the best deals. Caberfae Peaks in CadillacIf you’re just starting out, you need to find ski deals that won’t break the bank. Caberfae Peaks in Cadillac fits this description perfectly. Right now it has ski season passes that are available starting at $149. The weekend and midweek pass cost the same, so it’s just a matter of choosing which one fits your schedule. It boasts the highest chairlift in lower Michigan, which means it can provide skiers the chance to soak in a 360-degree view of Manistee National Forest while still gaining easy access to backside beginner favorites like the Smiling Irishmen and Easy Street runs. For stronger skiers who want to test their backcountry capabilities, there is nothing like the 25-plus-acre area that Caberfae opened up a few years ago. It is a boots-back hike to the lodge at the base of the slopes, but the backcountry terrain is free of huge boulders and cliffs so it is an ideal way to take your skiing to the next level without going too crazy. The Homestead at Glen ArborThis Glen Arbor gem provides stunning views that don’t require you to be a daredevil. Pies are a Thanksgiving must—so to supply this demand, serve your family a warm, freshly baked apple pie. Why apples, you ask? Well, apples are especially delicious during the fall because they are at their prime. If you’re going to serve the perfect apple pie, you need to take advantage of the apple season. The perfect apple pie would be described as having a crisp, flaky crust, and thick, cider-flavored apple filling. Making one is easier said than done. In fact, “easy as pie” isn’t as accurate as people think it is. But with this easy apple pie recipe, anyone can make a lovely Thanksgiving dessert that will keep everyone coming back for more. Apple Pie Tips and TricksFor the purpose of this guide, we will be focusing on the perfect apple pie filling. You can make an excellent apple pie without doing it all from scratch. The crust part, in particular, is tricky for many aspiring bakers, so if making the homemade pie dough is too much of a hassle, you should consider picking up a frozen pie crust at a grocery store. It will still taste great once it is filled with fresh fruit and a few other ingredients. Filling the Apple PieFor the perfect apple pie filling, you need to prepare the following: 3½ pounds baking apples (see note), peeled, cored, sliced ¼-inch thick 1 teaspoon lemon zest and 1 tablespoon lemon juice, from 1 lemon ½ cup granulated sugar 6 tablespoons packed dark brown sugar Heaping ¼ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon cinnamon 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons corn starch And last but not the least; prepare the following ingredients for baking: A beaten egg, cream, or milk, for brushing over crust 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, for topping the pie This recipe was created by a classically trained chef and cookbook author Jenn Segal and posted on her website: https://www.onceuponachef.com. She also teaches you how to bake the crust yourself, so visit her website if you want to try it out. Baking the Perfect Apple PiePreheat your oven to 375°F and prepare your ready-made crust. Cover the crust with a piece of parchment paper and fill it with dried beans or pie weights. Bake for 20 minutes. Then take the crust out of the oven; remove the parchment paper, beans, and pie weights. Tent the edges with a few strips of aluminum foil so it will protect the edges from getting too dark. Bake it for another 20 minutes until the dough is dry and golden. If the bottom puffs up, don’t worry: just press it down gently with a flat spatula or a pancake turner—but be careful not to puncture it. Increase the oven temperature to 425°F. So while that is baking, combine the apples, lemon zest, lemon juice, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Toss until the sugar is dissolved and all the apples are evenly coated. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Afterward, you can drain the apples, but make sure to collect the syrupy juice in another bowl. Pour this juice into a 2-cup microwave-safe liquid measuring cup. Take note of the quantity and then heat on high power in the microwave, checking it frequently until the syrup is reduced by half. It may take just around 4 minutes, but all microwaves are different so keep an eye on it. If it cooks for too long, the syrup will turn into sticky caramel. If done right, the syrup will be slightly thickened, but still pourable. Add the syrup back to the apples along with the flour and corn starch; toss to combine. Take the crust and pour in your filling and top it with the second crust, pinching the edges of the top and bottom crusts together with your fingers. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg—you can use cream or milk. Sprinkle just a bit of sugar over the top crust. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow the steam to escape, and bake for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, reduce the heat to 375°F before baking for an additional 45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the filling is bubbly. Let the pie cool completely before cutting. Ever since writer Sarah Josepha Hale successfully campaigned for the creation of the holiday back in the 19th century and celebrated by publishing pumpkin pie recipes, it has been a staple in every Thanksgiving table. And because we are only a few weeks away from this year’s Thanksgiving celebration, we need to start mastering the art of the pumpkin pie. Here we will teach you an easy recipe that will make your whole family love every last slice. Give them one more thing to be thankful for! DIY Optional: Store-Bought Pie Crust is Fine! You don’t need to make everything from scratch to bake the perfect pumpkin pie. For beginners, making the crust is probably the trickiest part. It can be a bit of a hassle. You can buy frozen crusts from the grocery store instead, and it will taste just as good. But if you do want to make your own crust, there are countless guides out there that go into the specifics of baking the best crust for your pumpkin pie. For the purpose of this guide, we will be focusing on the perfect pumpkin pie filling. What You NeedFor this recipe, you will need to prepare the following: 1 cup light brown sugar 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour ½ teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground ginger ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves 3 large eggs lightly beaten 1 15-ounce can pumpkin puree 1 and ¼ cups evaporated milk And of course, don’t forget your store-bought pie crust. The Best Homemade Pumpkin PieFirst, you need to preheat the oven to 400°F. To prepare your store-bought pie crust, bake it for around 5 minutes, then remove from the oven and let it cool while you prepare the filling. Take a large mixing bowl and whisk together the brown sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves until well combined. Take a separate mixing bowl and whisk together the eggs, evaporated milk, and of course, the pumpkin puree. Next, take the wet ingredients and pour them into the dry ingredients and mix together until fully combined. Your filling is ready! To make the pumpkin pie, pour the filling into the partially baked pie crust. Place it back into the oven and bake at 400°F for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the center is almost set. Afterward, you can remove it from the oven and transfer to a wire rack for 2 to 3 hours to cool completely. Cover tightly and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. It is extremely easy to make your own pumpkin pie. Pumpkin Pie Tips and TricksYou can top off your pumpkin pie with some whipped cream for that extra flavour—it also makes the pie look more gorgeous. If you want to prevent cracks in your pumpkin pie, avoid over baking it. While we mentioned estimated baking times, every oven is different, so you need to keep a careful eye on your pie. Also, while the pumpkin pie cools, the residual heat will continue to cook the pie and the center will finish cooking and firm up, so you can actually remove the pie after 45 minutes at 400°F while the center is still wobbly. If the pie ends up having a crack or two, don’t worry! You can easily decorate the pie, cover it with some whipped cream, or just eat it. The pumpkin pie will still taste incredible, even with a crack or two. Practice this easy recipe and you’ll have it mastered by the time Thanksgiving comes around. Just remember to make the pie the day before and keep it in the refrigerator so you don’t have anything to worry about by the time the holiday comes up. This will also free up some precious oven space in your kitchen for Thanksgiving. Here at Livnfresh, we love pumpkin pies just as much as we love Michigan. As chilly fall winds bring thoughts of picking apples and decorating pumpkins, what better time could there be to talk about the best Michigan wine to sip while snuggling up in a warm blanket on those chilly Michigan nights. Michigan Wine? Why yes, did you know that Michigan is one of American’s largest wine producers? With a climate moderated by proximity to Lake Michigan, our fruit belts are home to hundreds of wineries and vineyards, many producing world-class wines. Wineries and Vineyards? I thought they were the same thing. That’s actually a very common misconception. A vineyard is a plantation that produces grapes for wine. Michigan has plenty of those, but Michigan has even more wineries. Wineries don’t have to have a vineyard attached, they just have to make wine. A winery can produce wine from a fruit other than grapes, and Michigan is certainly known for its delicious fruit wines, or a winery can produce wines procured from vineyards. How Many Wineries are Located in Michigan? Most Michigan wine is produced in areas of Western Michigan with climates heavily influenced by proximity to Lake Michigan. As of 2018, there were 148 commercial wineries in Michigan, producing 3 million gallons of wine. So What Michigan Wines do I need to Taste This FallWell, part of me wants to say “all of them,” I think that might be excessive. Here at Livnfresh, perhaps the only thing we love more than talking about wine is drinking it. Here are our favorite Michigan wines, and I’m sure soon they’ll be yours, too:

Moms are always on the search for ways to reduce some of the stress that they experience on a daily basis. One easy way to reduce stress is to find a reliable vehicle to take the stress out of traveling with kids. Today we’ll share some of the best vehicles for moms to drive with kids in Michigan. In order to find the right car, there are a few things you should keep in mind. 1. The WeatherThe first thing you should think about when searching for a vehicle for family travel is the weather. Since you’ll be driving in Michigan, it is important to look for a vehicle with a four-wheel or all-wheel drive for the winter months. This can be tough to remember if you are searching for a vehicle in the summer months when the temperatures are nearing ninety degrees! 2. Your FamilyYou’ll also want to consider how many people you will have in your car at one time. In order to keep everyone comfortable, it is usually best to opt for a van or sedan style. If you have a lot of people in your family, this will ensure that everyone has a seat. If you have a smaller family, a van or sedan style car can give everyone the space they need to spread out and avoid any unnecessary sibling conflict while you are traveling to your destination. 3. Think about BrandSomething else to keep in mind when you are searching for your next family vehicle is your brand loyalty. If you have had really good luck with a certain brand of vehicle, you should start your search there. If you are new to the market or looking for something entirely new, take to the internet to read reviews about cars that will fit the whole family and get you through a Michigan winter. You can also talk to your friends and family about their favorite car brands. In addition to keeping your car clean, you’ll also want to think about the cost of upgrading tires and purchasing parts for the car you choose in the event that something would break. These are things that you may not be thinking about when you are at the dealership or browsing for cars online but are really important! 4. Think about UpkeepTraveling with kids can be messy. Whether you are doing the routine school pick up or taking off on a road trip to visit relatives across the state, there is likely to be a mess. It could be as little as spilled crumbs under the car seat or as big as a sippy cup dumping when you have to slam on your breaks at the last moment. If either of these things happens to you, you’ll be grateful that you took the time when you were searching for a vehicle to pick one with an interior that is easy to clean! 5. Some Ideas to Get You Started! The experts at Livnfresh recommend an SUV such as the Suburban or Yukon XL to get you and your family where you need to go regardless of the season in Michigan. If you are more in the market for a mini-van, you should start your search with the Toyota Sienna since it offers the all-wheel-drive feature. from Livnfresh Blog|The Coolest State Apparel Co. https://blog.livnfresh.com/what-are-the-best-vehicles-for-moms-to-drive-with-kids-in-michigan/ from Livnfresh Share Your State Pride. https://livnfresh.tumblr.com/post/188542336832 via https://livnfresh.tumblr.com/ via Tumblr https://annchumleigh.tumblr.com/post/188542405950 You’ve enjoyed sports for as long as you can remember. There’s nothing like the experience of being at the big game. Watching on television just doesn’t compare, and you don’t understand why some say that they’d rather sit at home and watch from there. You want to be surrounded by fellow fans with the action taking place right in front of you. And you’re now wondering if it’s time to bring your children to experience this with you. Perhaps you have memories of your mom, dad or both bringing you to games and are looking forward to experiencing that with your own children. But is it too soon? A lot of factors will come into play when it comes to deciding if your child is too young to bring to a college or pro sports game. Perhaps the most important thing to note is that there is no exact age. It all depends on how mature your child is and what you’re comfortable with exposing them to. FidgetingWill your kid be able to sit still for the entire game or at least long enough for it to be worth taking them? This is an especially important point if you’re going to be attending a sold-out contest, meaning that there’s not going to be much or any extra room to let off excess energy. Conversely, going to a lesser-attended sports event such as the University of Michigan soccer or baseball games could be a great option as there will likely be much more room for excess energy to be released. Leaving Early? In some cases, bringing your children may mean that you’ll need to leave the game early. This could be related to fidgeting, and it could also be related to when they need to be in bed. Regardless, are you going to want to spend $100 or so on tickets and leave early? Are you going to be okay with leaving early even if the monetary aspect is not an issue? Language and DrinkingAre you comfortable with your child being around foul language and drinking? In most cases, this is going to be the case at these types of events, and you need to ensure that this is something that you’re comfortable with prior to bringing your child into that type of environment. With that said, some teams have family-friendly sections, so do your research and head there if that better suits your needs. Does Your Child Want to Go?This is, sadly, an overlooked point for some parents. Does your child want to go? This needs to be a must-have as this is not something that you should make your child experience. It should be something that is anticipated and that they’re excited about or at least intrigued by. PositivesHowever, despite these precautionary notes, good times and great memories will be experienced by most. There’s nothing like the first time that you bring your child to a sports event, and it may end up being one of theirs too. Of course, that’s another reason why you might want to wait as the older the child is, the more likely the memories from that experience will remain. Regardless, when the time is right, bring your kid, and have a great time. When you do make your way to that first sports event with your child, make sure to come adorned in great Michigan-inspired apparel such as what Livnfresh has available. from Livnfresh Blog|The Coolest State Apparel Co. https://blog.livnfresh.com/bringing-kids-to-a-college-of-pro-sports-game/ from Livnfresh Share Your State Pride. https://livnfresh.tumblr.com/post/188429430657 via https://livnfresh.tumblr.com/ via Tumblr https://annchumleigh.tumblr.com/post/188429462155 Now that the calendar has flipped over to October, summer has officially ended. This means that there are only a few more weeks of beautiful weather in Michigan before it gets extremely cold. The impending poor weather creates a huge dilemma for parents throughout the state. You obviously want to spend your Saturday watching the Michigan Wolverines or Michigan State Spartans play football, but you also want to spend some quality time with the kids outside. Luckily, you do not have to choose between these two wonderful activities. It is now possible to watch the game and still be a great parent. The easiest way to watch the football game while also letting your kids spend some time in the great weather is by adding a television to the backyard. This TV needs to handle the outdoor elements and display a gorgeous picture in direct sunlight, so you will need a special outdoor television. An outdoor TV has specifically been designed to work best when it is set up outside of the house. Moving the television from the living room to the backyard will not work. You will have no problem watching the Wolverines or Spartans in your backyard thanks to the services provided by HULU, Charter and the major satellite TV companies. They all offer a streaming app that allows their customers to watch live sports from any location with a stable internet connection. This app can easily be added to your new outdoor TV in a matter of seconds. Once you sign in to your account, you can start streaming college football in your backyard. The beauty of having a television in the backyard is that it allows you to keep an eye on the kids at all times. You can let the kids get the most out of their outdoor time without having to worry about something bad happening. If the kids start to get a little rowdy, then you are only a few feet away to calm them down before a fight or injury occurs. Since football is best enjoyed in big groups, you can make the most of the new outdoor TV by inviting all of your friends over to the house for a big party. If you do not think that you will be able to afford a new outdoor television, then there is an easy solution to your problem. Instead of enjoying the game on a big screen, you can watch your favorite Michigan college football team on a tablet. Connecting a few Bluetooth speakers to the tablet will help you feel like you are actually at the game. The best part about using tablets is that you can get up to grab a drink, make a plate of food or attend to the kids without having to take your eyes off the game. In order to get the most out of your outdoor football viewing party, you will want to display your love for Michigan with a great shirt from Livnfresh. All of our shirts and accessories are designed to celebrate and honor Michigan, so they will surely be loved by any longtime resident of the state. from Livnfresh Blog|The Coolest State Apparel Co. https://blog.livnfresh.com/football-season/ from Livnfresh Share Your State Pride. https://livnfresh.tumblr.com/post/188344984897 via https://livnfresh.tumblr.com/ via Tumblr https://annchumleigh.tumblr.com/post/188345111185 We here at Livnfresh have the belief that with any state of the U.S., the one in which you reside, also known as your hometown state, comes with its unique lifestyle. Michigan has a lifestyle well known for changing climates with evolving seasons, outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and boating, and of course, good ole Michigan beer festivals. According to an article, written by executive Channel 7 producer Max White, the results of America’s choice of top 10 beers were in, and of the 10 beers named on the list, 6 out of the 10 beers listed were from Michigan. Not too shabby in terms of Michigan’s beer brewery skills, wouldn’t you agree? Does that leave you wondering what is the most Michigan made beer? Michigan’s own Bell’s Brewing Company and Founders Brewing Company are two highly regarded beer brewing companies by America. If you haven’t already guessed the name of the beer that took first yet, Bell’s Two Hearted Ale was named the No. 1 beer in the United States. According to the Bell’s website, Bell’s Two Hearted IPA beer has been recognized as top beer in America for the third straight year in a row. The description of the Two Hearted IPA beer on the Bell’s website reads, “Brewed with 100% Centennial hops from the Pacific Northwest and named after the Two Hearted River in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, this IPA is bursting with hop aromas ranging from pine to grapefruit from massive hop additions in both the kettle and the fermenter.” The description on the Bell’s website further reads, “Perfectly balanced with a malt backbone and combined with the signature fruity aromas of Bell’s house yeast, this beer is remarkably drinkable and well suited for adventures everywhere.” Bell’s Brewing Company currently has three brewery locations throughout Michigan, headquartered with a massive production space in Comstock, MI, another brewery location in downtown Kalamazoo, and sister brewery location in Escanaba in the Upper Peninsula. Bell’s remains the largest independently owned craft brewery in Michigan. In one year, Bell’s brews upwards near 500,000 barrels a beer and distributes across almost our entire country, merely shy of about 10 states. Are you left curious as to what other Michigan beers placed on the top 10 list of best beers in America? Bell’s did it again. Bell’s Hopslame ranked as fourth on the list. Other Michigan beers named were: Founders CBS (Canadian Breakfast Stout), Founders Breakfast Stout, Founders All Day IPA, Old Nation M-43 N.E. IPA, and finally, Founders Dirty Bastard also ranked on the list. As you just discovered, Michigan’s has a lifestyle particularly attuned to exquisite taste in beer, and the brew mastery skills to go along with it! Proves why our beer festivals here in Michigan draw such large crowds! Are you looking for ways to fit comfort and exquisite taste of clothing into your unique Michigan lifestyle? Football season means so many things to fans – College Gameday, food and fun, and most of all, tailgating! For those who are Wolverine fans, tailgating is a part of home game day traditions. So, just where is the best place to tailgate if you’re watching the University of Michigan team play? You might be surprised at the multiple places available for fun tailgating on game day. First, the University of Michigan is located in beautiful Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ann Arbor is a city that has a lot to offer visitors in general, but on game day, the city is alive with lots to do prior to Wolverine games! Of course, most people want to tailgate at the “Big House,” and this is always a prime spot for food and fun before the big game. In fact, the most coveted tailgate area is the University of Michigan Golf Course, which is located directly across from the stadium. You might be surprised to find that there are RV parks dedicated to tailgating on game days! In fact, there are facilities that will assist you in setting up your RV; all you’d need to do is park your recreational vehicle and the tailgating companies do the rest! There are also a number of places to tailgate on campus – or at least to visit as you tailgate pre-game. About an hour and thirty minutes prior to game time, the University of Michigan Wolverine Drum Line puts on a “Step Show.” All you need to do is tailgate near Revelli Hall to hear the powerful drumline as they get the crowd pumped. The drumline will make its way to the intersection of Hoover and Greene Street, where they join the rest of the Marching Band. The entire band will then make a march toward the stadium, playing “The Victors” as they go. That’s one part of the tailgate experience that’s sure to get you fired up for a Wolverine victory! Located at Hill Street and Fifth Avenue is the Fingerle Lumber Company parking lot. Here, at Ebel Field, “The Bus” picks up anyone who is at the spot at the right time. Of course, business school students typically ride the bus to a breakfast date at Angelo’s. However, for just five dollars, you can join the party, then ride The Bus to the stadium. Across from Pioneer High School (Ann Arbor’s largest school; the parking lot is adjacent to the UM Golf Course where many already tailgate), at the southwest corner of the Big House and Main Street is a tailgate area known as the “Wolverine Warriors” area. Just about anyone can join in the tailgating here! In fact, the Warriors encourage guests to join them – as long as they are wearing the maize and blue! Speaking of, Livinfresh has a great selection of game day and University of Michigan apparel. Stop by or visit us online to get your maize and blue, just in time for a visit to the Wolverine Warriors! from Livnfresh Blog|The Coolest State Apparel Co. https://blog.livnfresh.com/tailgate-for-a-university-of-michigan-football-game/ from Livnfresh Share Your State Pride. https://livnfresh.tumblr.com/post/188127747712 via https://livnfresh.tumblr.com/ via Tumblr https://annchumleigh.tumblr.com/post/188127784540 |
